Competitions
Members are encouraged to enter their work for both the members' internal club competitions or for selection as entrants to represent SPC in inter-club or WCPF competitions. All competitions are judges by experts who comment on each entry submitted as well as deciding on the overall winners and runners-up.

Members' internal competitions
In 2009/10 the Club is holding five internal open subject competitions. Entries must be submitted on the dates given in the Programme. In addition there is the Print and Slide of the Year and the Panel Competition which is held at the Annual General Meeting. Every 3 years the Barber Shield Slide Competition is held. Prize winners are presented with trophies which are held for one year. Winning images can be viewed in the Gallery pages.

External competitions
Slides and prints for external competitions are chosen by a selection committee consisting of the competition secretary and two other committee members. Currently the club enters the following external competitions:
The Horseshoe Competition is between 5 clubs - Sidmouth, Chard, Lyme Regis, Exmouth and Honiton. Each club submits 5 prints and 5 slides. The name derives from the venue at which the event used to be held - The Three Horseshoes Inn.
WCPF Inter-Club Digital Projected Image Competition replaces the WCPF Inter - Club Slide Championship due to the decline in slide usage.
Torbay Photographic Society. This season sees the fifth print and slide battle with Torbay Photographic Society.
